New Patriotic Party(NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko has said that one does not need a Godfather to be successful in life, advising that rather than look for a Godfather, people must build themselves and become their own Godfathers so that they can provide leadership support for others.
The former Deputy Minister for Agriculture who has not been reappointed, insisted that not having a Godfather does not mean one will not succeed in the quest to climb the ladder of success, admonishing that one has to be thankful for the gift of life and continue to press on.
The phenomenon of Godfatherism — the reliance on already wealthy and highly-connected people in order to succeed –has become a prerequisite in Ghana, especially in Politics. People without Godfathers tend to labour in vain while those with Godfathers ascend the political ladder rapidly. This creates a lot of disaffection in the system, especially among party youth.
But Hon. Osei Nyarko is convinced that one does not need a Godfather to succeed:
“Build up yourself and become your own Godfather and also provide leadership support for the others.
You don’t need a Godfather to succeed. You can equally become a godfather to many if you create that space by yourself. The fact that you don’t have any godfather doesn’t mean you will not succeed in your journey to the top. Just be thankful to God for your life and press on,” he said in a post sighted by MyNewsGh.com
While some agree with him, others disagree, saying that it’s impossible to make progress, especially in Politics if one has no formidable political Godfather.
