Political Science lecturer Ransford Gyampo has asked government not to suppress the unemployment numbers in the country.

To him, the numbers need to be known in order for joblessness to be addressed frontally in the country.

He made this known while reacting to the number of young men and women who he saw queuing to be enlisted into the Ghana Army.

To the University Don. the issue of unemployment especially among the youth is worrying and needs to be holistically addressed by all stakeholders involved.

His post shared on Facebook read “Just saw many young energetic people queuing to be recruited into the military. It points to the reality of youth unemployment in Ghana. The numbers shouldn’t be suppressed. Rather it must help us to confront the reality of joblessness more frontally“.

This week, social media has been inundated by photos of young men and women who were in long queues seeking to be enlisted into the Ghana Army after Government of Ghana gave clearance for the security service to employ personnel to augment the current ones they have.

The numbers have been worrying with social media users questioning where the jobs created by government are considering the fact that several young people keep looking for non-existing jobs in the country.

Currently, the percentage of unemployed youth in the country is not known.
