Asante Kotoko FC has withdrawn from the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) Top 6 competition.

Scheduled for August 4, 2022, the competition will act as a preseason event for teams playing in Africa.

Porcupine Warriors were supposed to face Medeama, Bechem United, Karela United, Great Olympics, and Hearts of Oak in the tournament, but have already withdrawn from the competition due to scheduling conflicts.

For “sporting considerations,” a statement posted on Kotoko’s Twitter feed said that the club was withdrawing from the event.

“We formally notified GHALCA of our decision not to participate in this year’s Ghalca Top Six event this afternoon. We made our choice only for the sake of the game. “Thank you,” read the message on the notification.

For its inaugural iteration, the GHALCA championship game was planned to be held between the season’s top four clubs in 2021/22.

Baba Yara Sports Stadium is the venue for all six of our matches.” There will be a tournament from August 14 through August 31, 2022. Later, he added, the tournament’s format would be made public.

“We apologize to fans of Kotoko. However, we need to keep Ghanaian representatives for Africa highly engaged before their African campaign starts.”

Following the departure of coach Prosper Narteh Ogun on Wednesday, Kotoko are presently without a manager.
