Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North Penelope Bartels has insisted that Child abuse in all forms should never be tolerated, excused or forgiven.

Social Media sensation Rosemond Brown known popularly as Akuapem Poloo was today sentenced to 3 months imprisonment by Accra Circuit Court for posting nude photos of herself and her son.

The actress was charged with publication of obscene materials, engaging in domestic violence, a conduct that in any way undermines another person’s privacy or integrity and engaging in domestic violence namely conduct that in any way detracts or is likely to detract from another person’s dignity and worth as a human being.

There have been arguments on social media to the effect that sentencing Akuapem Poloo was harsh and there is the need for the government to pardon her considering the fact that she is a first time offender.

But Penelope Bartels thinks otherwise.

To her, “Child abuse in all forms should never be tolerated, excused or forgiven. Child labour, child molestation, even verbal abuse should not continue, even though so woven into the fabric of our society”.

Adding that “Ignorance of the law should not mean excuse for perpetrators. Even in ignorance, we shouldn’t fall foul as long as our moral instincts favour Child protection from all fronts”.
