A section of Ghanaians and, to a large extent, football-loving fans have reacted wildly to the latest photo shared by Black Stars midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah.

The 33-year-old former Juventus player shared the photo on his social media pages where he looked unrecognizable wearing his newly grown beard.

Kwadwo Asamoah had shared the photo to acknowledge the kind messages he received from Ghanaians on his birthday on December 9.

However, the reactions and comments the photo has garnered tell a lot about the shocking surprise of Ghanaians to see Kwadwo Asamoah with a thick beard.

Many could not fathom why he had allowed his facial hair to grow that much. Perhaps he was bowing out of the football scene to venture into something else, others opined.

Kwadwo Asamoah has not been an active member of the Black Stars after the abysmal performance of the team at the 2014 Mundial in Brazil.

His career has spanned several years where he had plied his trade mainly in Italy playing for Udinese and Juventus (where he won several trophies). Kwadwo Asamoah has also been at a couple of AFCONS and played at the 2010 and 2014 world cups.

Kwadwo Asamoah was named CAF’s Most Promising African Player in 2010 and Ghana’s Player of the Year twice in a row in 2012 and 2013. Bloomberg ranked Kwadwo Asamoah as the world’s 27th best footballer in 2013.

Kwadwo Asamoah after playing for Cagliari the previous season and spending some seasons at Inter Milan is currently clubless.
